    c.Support and browser support.

This support request is regarding the use of browsers other than Internet Explorer on operating systems other than Windows.

As our computing environment becomes more and more diverse we are experiencing a need to use our ticket system / knowledge base on computers and devices that do not run Windows.  Two of these browsers are Safari and Firefox.  It would be extremely useful if the c.Support application worked in both of these browsers on Windows and Macintosh and under Firefox on Linux.  The main problem seems to be incompatible or IE proprietary JavaScript.

We are also getting a large number of web capable mobile devices.  The most prominent of these devices is the iPhone.  We need to be able to access, update, and manage our tickets via mobile devices such as the iPhone.

We would like to push forward with a wider adoption of a common ticket system here at our college and we are constantly finding this is a huge stumbling block.

    Re: c.Support and browser support.

    Thank you for your feedback,

We will be releasing the c.Support Mobile Desktop interface in our next release of c.Support. It will allow reps to create and edit incidents from browsers that supports basic HTML and cookies. The c.Support Mobile Desktop is designed for use on mobile devices like the iPhone but can also be use from browsers on a desktop or laptop.

We are also working on cross browser support for the c.Support Desktop in a subsequent release coming in 2009.

     Hi Dan,

Thats awesome news! Just a couple quick questions.  Will this be a full version release were talking or minor release? And do you have a time frame of when it would be out?

    Hi amarling,

I can answer that on Dan's behalf.  This release is being called "c.Support V7.5" but for a "dot release" it is packed with new features, particularly the Service Desk Edition.  Timeframe for release is 30-45 days.

    Cheers,
    Eric

Has this update been released yet?

If so, where can I go to get it?

If not, do we have a timeline?

    cheers,

    matt

v7.5 did get posted back in late October.  You can download it from the downloads section of our support site at http://eud.gwi.com after logging into the site.

Also, I notice the gwi website is apparently running IE proprietary code as well, which is disappointing. I look forward to the day when GWI uses non-proprietary code all around so I don't have to be inconvenienced by the forced use of IE.

    Hi benr,

I'm not aware that our website runs any IE proprietary code.  Would you be so kind as to point out where you are seeing that?

    Thanks,
    Eric
