Introducing the concept of an asset "Configuration" and "System" to c.Support Asset Management

A working PC or server is the sum total of a number or assets interconnected to make up a working "Configuration". On the other hand a "System" might be one "Configuration" or a number of interrelated "Configurations".

Currently it is not easy to identify "Configurations" in c.Support, especially if a owner owns multiple assets. It is even harder to indent "Systems". Of course with a combination of custom fields and advanced reporting this can be achieved.

At the very least, I would find it useful to be able to add assets to a "Configuration" then be able have a view and easily report on all configurations held within the c.Support asset database.

I would be interested to see if others would find this type of functionality useful.

I am aware that this functionality exists with the Remedy Helpdesk application.

    Hi wthurley,

Thanks for passing this feature request along.  Configuration Management Database (CMDB) functionality and enhanced Asset Management functionality were directions that our Development team have already laid out for the next release of our software (v8.0) which is tentatively scheduled to roll out in Q2 2009.  I'll make sure these notes get passed over to them as well.

    Best,
    Eric
